United States: an animal shelter is empty for the first time in its history

For the first time in nearly 50 years, a Pennsylvania animal shelter has no dogs left after hundreds of adoptions.

The best Christmas present ever. An animal shelter in the United States has been on cloud nine for the past few days. The reason? For the first time in almost 50 years, its kennel is empty, thanks to an incredible wave of adoptions.

This year, the Adams County (Pennsylvania) SPCA has succeeded in getting 598 fur balls adopted. But that’s not all! The facility also reunited 125 strays with their owners.

Just two weeks ago, the cages were full of cats and dogs. Luckily, they all found new homes in time for the festive season.

With no real surprise, this good news fills the animal shelter with joy: “Our community has mobilized once again! This is the first time in 47 years that the Adams County SPCA has been empty, and even more so at Christmas, it’s a real miracle,” wrote the shelter on its Facebook page.

In its message, the facility warmly thanks its staff and volunteers: “The staff and volunteers have worked very hard to care for the animals and ensure they are adopted by the right home.”

Staff members are getting ready to get back to work, to say the least. Indeed, the Adams County shelter has indicated that it will begin taking in animals from other Pennsylvania shelters this week: “For now, we’re going to rejoice in this success! Merry Christmas!”.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), around 6.3 million pets enter American shelters every year.
